This is a series of lovely, short poems. They are easily read and understood, but, nonetheless, quite delightful. I personally often struggle with what I feel is more complicated and lengthy poetry. However I really enjoy classy poetry that I can comprehend. This collection is a perfect example of the kind of poetry that I can really enjoy. Every one of these poems can be read and enjoyed in a few minutes of free time. It is a great value on Kindle. Additionally, I feel this is yet another example of a rich tradition of African American prose and poetry that I feel is somewhat forgotten. It is also very feminine. In that context, I respectfully also recommend comparing and contrasting the poetry of Phillis Wheatley and Alice Dunbar Nelson to this collection by Miss Johnson.Product details

I thoroughly enjoy this collection!
It's as if I could hear her voice in each poem. Her words are rich and dark and lovely. A must read.
I cannot believe I've made it this far in my life, an avid reader and lover of poetry and have just now discovered Georgia Douglas Johnson--black female poet and playwright from the Harlem Renaissance!
Some of the best books I ever bought were discovered by searching the shelves of bookstores. Although now I tend to search those shelves in a very different manner (electronically), this treasured find is no less magical than all the other precious books of poetry that I have been fortunate enough to purchase. So many of Georgia Johnson’s poems are sublime short, lyrical masterpieces of word craft (perhaps I am a bit easy to please when it comes to this genre). I am in love with poems of love and romance, and so much of Johnson’s work adds to that abiding love even though the love experiences she writes about often miss the mark of love and joy fulfilled and requited. Even in her sadness, her woman’s heart captured mine forever.
